The True Language of Love

A little knowledge of a foreign language goes a long way. And Russian women adore attempts at speaking their native tongue… especially when it involves intimate declarations of love or whispered sweet nothings. From great Russian writers such as Pushkin and Tolstoy, the vernacular has a deep tradition of conveying sentiment and is a superb means for expressing affection and intimacy.

The many short forms of a Russian woman’s name means that even a slight alteration can act as an affectionate and loving form of address. For instance, diminutives of Natalia include Natasha, Natashka, Natashenka, and Natashechka, while Anastasia has the shortened forms of Nastia and Nastenka among others. Just don’t address Ekaterina as Katyusha until after you know her quite well and for a while.

In Russian there are two ways of saying “you” that should not be confused: ty (Ты) which is used for friends and loved ones, and vy (вы), used for more formal relationships. It may take time to be on such comfortable terms with a Russian femme before using all the variations of her name and certain terms of affection. So the best approach is to pick and choose what feels right for the love of your life.

Be advised that until such a time as you’re on somewhat intimate terms with a Russian woman, it will likely be taken as shallow flattery to address her by a nickname or use any terms of endearment.

Of course, once you’re familiar with a Russian lady’s variety of nicknames, you’ll then want to impress her with a range of effective and passionate terms of endearment…
